Howell Nature Center

The Howell Nature Center’s intent is to foster relationships and create a real sense of belonging, offering a unique setting where people, nature and wildlife flourish together in harmony. They have been caring for wild birds and mammals since 1982. In those 30+ years, their goal has remained the same: Rehabilitate injured and orphaned wildlife in order to return physically and socially healthy birds, mammals, and other animals to their natural environment, and educate area citizens about the wild animals that share our world. With 230 rich acres of rolling hills and trails, lush gardens and multiple high adventure courses all nestled alongside beautiful Pleasant Lake, HNC attracts nature and adventure lovers from far and wide. Alexandria’s Naturescape features a waterfall, kid-sized spider web, an enormous sandbox, and more. Reservations are required for the two 500-foot zip lines, high ropes adventure course, and Michigan’s tallest outdoor climbing tower.

Wild Wonders Wildlife Park at Howell Nature Center provides refuge to permanently-injured wildlife. It was born from the mission to help injured and orphaned wildlife and to educate the public to become better stewards of our natural world. The park provides a permanent home for birds and mammals who, due to permanent injury or imprinting on humans, cannot be released to their natural habitat.

The Howell Nature Center is fully licensed by the Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, their wildlife clinic see more than 4,000 wild birds, mammals, and other animals each year. It is the largest facility of its kind in the state of Michigan. Their Rehabilitation Supervisor oversees the care of the animals, in cooperation with other staff, interns, and many volunteers.
