Can the beauty of downtown Brighton overshadow the star power of Grammy Award winner Ashanti?

To find out, tune in to see “A Christmas Winter Song,” which premieres on the Lifetime Network at 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14.

Various locations in downtown Brighton were used for filming in the spring.

In the movie, Ashanti plays Clio, a Christmas shop owner, who befriends Fred (Stan Shaw), a former jazz singer who is down on his luck. In the spirit of the holiday season, Clio welcomes Fred into her shop to perform for her customers.

Clio, who just lost her own father and is grappling with whether she wants to have children, helps Fred reconnect with his daughter and grandchildren just in time for the town’s annual Christmas concert.

In addition to singing, Ashanti is also known for her acting roles in “Army Wives,” “Mothers and Daughters,” “Coach Carter,” “The Muppets’ Wizard of Oz,” “John Tucker Must Die” and “Resident Evil: Extinction.”

According to reports, the film’s producer, Danny Roth, lives in Howell. Some of the locations that might be featured in the film include the Millpond, Lynn’s Cafe, and Wood ’N’ Things.
