Giving Back in Livingston County

April 22, 2020

Throughout the last month, the Livingston County community has rallied together to support local businesses, health care professionals, and other essential workers. We are committed to sharing resources and ideas to for continued support of those in our community who need it most.

Your acts of kindness and generosity are greatly appreciated. You can continue to help support our community in a few ways:

Giving Back

Now more than ever, it’s important to patronize your favorite businesses as you are able to. Purchasing gift cards is a great way to help cash flow and support local establishments and giving yourself the opportunity to visit them sometime in the future. There are several Livingston County establishments offering online gift card purchases, as well as e-commerce and delivery on items like books and handmade artwork.

Dave Lorenz, Vice President of Travel Michigan says, “Travel is important for so many reasons, one of those being the inspiration it provides and the opportunity to look ahead to something with anticipation. There is no doubt that we are currently going through an incredibly difficult period as a state and as an industry and especially for our colleagues who have been laid off or furloughed. So many face uncertainty at a time when we are usually getting ready to roll out the welcome mat for the busy summer tourism season. We are all in this together, which is why I encourage you to donate to the Michigan Hospitality Employee Relief Fund if you are able. These grants go to employees in the hospitality industry impacted by COVID-19.”

There are other ways to support the hospitality industry in our state, like through a donation to Michigan Cares For Tourism or the Michigan Restaurant and Lodging Association, as well as through local campaigns. Brighton recently launched its Small Town, Big Hearts initiative, inviting residents and visitors to help the local small business community through this difficult time. You can find more Patronicity campaigns, like supporting Bourbons, 2 Dandelions Bookshop, Southern Shaved Ice, Jack’s Custard and Cakes, and more here.

On a local level, you can support the Livingston County Small Business Assistance Fund by donating or purchasing a #LoveLivCo t-shirt or window cling. It’s a great way to show local pride and support your favorite Brighton-Howell Area businesses.
