I take macaroni and cheese very seriously. If it’s on a menu, I’m going to order it. My standards for the dish are high. I take into consideration the noodle, the type of cheese, whether to not it’s creamy, tangy, or dressed up with another sauce or veggies…the list goes on and on! To celebrate National Macaroni and Cheese Day, I’ve put together this list of my favorite dishes from around the Brighton-Howell Area.
This mac and cheese was a staple comfort food for me during the stay-at-home orders. There’s a generous portion of tangy, cheesy pasta with a taste reminiscent of the classic blue box. I recommend it with a side order of broccoli, but you can also add cajun chicken for a spicy twist!
I dream about the famous mac and cheese from Diamonds Steak and Seafood. It’s that good! Order it as a side with your steak or choose it for your full entree and add a protein of your choice. Cavatappi pasta, a four-cheese sauce, sharp cheddar cheese, and toasted bread crumbs round out this dish, which might be my favorite in Livingston County.
For lunch or for dinner, you can’t go wrong with this macaroni choice! At Brighton Bar & Grill, the mac is served with herb-crusted chicken on top and tossed in a delicious and creamy four-cheese sauce.
Whether you’re in Brighton or in Howell, you must check out Block Brewing Company! Their house-made macaroni and cheese is the perfect pairing for their BBQ flavors, topped with bacon and cornbread crumbs. Jazz it up by adding pulled pork, chicken, or brisket.
Starting at $13
Come hungry when you visit Cleary’s Pub in downtown Howell! This giant portion of pasta includes a rich sauce with pieces of lobster, breadsticks, and a house salad. It’s big enough to share…but you won’t want to!
Another delicious BBQ option is from downtown Brighton’s Ginopolis’ Bar-BQ. Order mac and cheese as a side with your brisket or ribs, or show your commitment to macaroni with a full-sized entree. Either way, your taste buds will thank you!
Customization is the name of the game at Jonna’s Bar and Grill. Their macaroni is mixed with an eight-cheese sauce and they offer toppings like chicken, steak, peppers, mushrooms, jalapeno, and more to create your perfect plate! Which will you choose?

Did you discover something new from this list? Was your favorite left off? Let me know! Someone has to try every macaroni and cheese dish in the Brighton-Howell Area. I am prepared to be that person.
