Livingston County has enough trails to tire out even the most dynamite hiker. Hike all 123 trails or explore our 50,000+ acres of parks. There is outdoor recreation for everyone to enjoy here. Explore these trails via horseback, on a bike, roller blades, skateboard, or your own two feet. Whatever you do, let us know how your experience was! With 123 trails to choose from, it’s hard to know where to begin! Here are all the trails we offer that are waiting to be explored, as well as some of our favorite ideas on the best ways to enjoy them.

Hiking For Youngsters:

The Howell Nature Center is the perfect place to enjoy a nature hike with little ones. With 230 acres of trails, lush gardens and hills, children have all the space they need to burn excess energy.

Kensington Metropark and Huron Meadows Metropark are also great options for young hikers. These trails are paved, so they are easier on little feet. These parks also have lake access, so kids can cool off after a long day of hiking.

ADA Accessible Trails:

Livingston County offers many ADA Accessible Trails. These trails meet federal rules made with the American Disabilities Act and are made so people with disabilities can use the trails.

People with the following disabilities can get to these trails safely on their own:

Has limited sight or is blind
Uses a wheelchair
Has a hearing impairment, or is deaf
Uses a walking aid
Has a mental impairment

Hiking For Her:
Immerse yourself in nature for your next girl’s trip. Hike our trails and bring a picnic basket, or visit one of our delicious downtown eateries. Bring the girls to Brighton Recreation Area to enjoy 4,947 acres of park to explore. The area is interspersed with several attractive lakes that make the area instagram-worthy.

After you’re finished exploring Brighton Recreation Area, walk around downtown Brighton and check out the area’s exciting nightlife.

 

Hiking For Him:
Guys who enjoy target practice, should try Island Lake Recreation Area. The state park features one of the nation’s safest shooting ranges. Work on your aim, then unwind by hiking on the park’s 4,000 acres.

Many say that Island Lake offers an “up north’ experience. Make it a guy’s weekend by renting out a cabin and taking a couple days to explore all that Island Lake Recreation Area has to offer.

Hiking For Pros:
Pros should head over to Pinckney. The Pinckney Recreation Area is known for its extensive trail system and chain of excellent fishing lakes. This state park offers the most space, 11,000 acres to be exact.

Experienced hikers enjoy the Potawatomi Trail. It has been ranked as one of the top trails in Michigan. See if it lives up to its reputation, and try it for yourself!
